Pet Corner - Prasanna's Pet

This is my pet Delsha. It is very cute. It is in Pink colour.
When I went India I bought this chick.
Everyday I will feed and spend my time looking after it.

My chick is very naughty.
One day I was holding it on my hand and it suddenly poked my hand.
It was not really painful though.
In my house, it will follow behind me where ever I go.
I like my chick alot.

Samples of Group Writing - Complications

Class Discussion (2nd part of the story planner)

Teacher's feedback:
You have a very good ending sentence in your paragraph 1.
"Soon boredom caught up with us" provides a very logical condition for your
group to begin your paragraph 2 using "Then an idea came to my mind".

I hope all of you can see how a paragraph can be linked to the next paragraph through this example.

Next, one way to enhance your writing skills include the use of the "one liner paragraph".
There is only one sentence per paragraph.
For example:

I searched the toilet, no one was there.

I ransacked the cabinets, could not see my brother either.

I opened the old wooden chest... There he was!

In this piece of writing, we could modify this strategy as such:

Mary searched the bathroom... and took a plastic pole.

Sam ransacked the our parent's room...  and grabbed their beloved blankets.

I scanned through the kitchen... and found a box of matchstick.

Did you notice that different verbs were used?

Why is that so?

Discussion on Pupils' Group Work (Introduction)

Teacher's feedback:
Generally, your group has answered all the "Wh" questions except for "who".
It is unclear to the reader who do "we" stand for.
Your group has also used the right tense for this recount. That's good!
The setting is also appropriate for the follow-up events that includes making a camp fire.
It is logical that you can probably do it when your parents are not around.

Teacher's feedback:
Seems like your group has finished on the introduction and moved on to the body.
However, let me just comment on the introduction here.
Like the Green group, it is unclear in your write-up on the "who".
As for the rest of the "wh" questions, they are rather disconnected
though they are somewhere in the paragraph. This affects the flow of the recount.
Try to take a look at your friends' work and see how the sentences are interconnected, supporting each other to allow a better flow of the story.

Teacher's feedback:
I like the way how your group has started the paragraph. It is simple but clear.
However, I would like to remind you on the context of the recount.
It is a first person recount where you are part of the story.
However, your group's writing takes on a third person perspective.
It is out of point.

You might want to look at what your friends have worked on and revise your own work.

Teacher's feedback:
Your group has a good starting sentence.
I like the way how your group has answered the 3 "wh" questions
within a single sentence. I am just wondering if the last two sentences
could be joined as one using conjunction "and". Ending the introduction with
all of you feeling bored allows a smooth transition to paragraph two (body) when
one of you came up with an idea to kill the boredom.

However, do try to give names to your siblings. Like most of the groups, try to characterise the "who".

Teacher's feedback:
I like the way how you have linked your boredom to the uninteresting television programmes.
It is good! You also have a good starting sentence.
However, it is unclear to the readers who "we" are in your write-up.
It will also be good if you can state where the setting is as well.
Try to use a few linking words if possible to allow your story to flow better.
Currently, I personally find them a little disconnected.
Refer to your friends' writings for ideas.

Teacher's feedback:
Generally, your group has not defined who the characters are. It will be good to provide more information about them such as their names. It is unclear to me if the boredom was due to the fact that all of you were not allowed to go out or if it had something to do with television programmes.
What do you think?

Mayan Multiplication Method

Isn't this cool?

Do you find this method useful or is there some limitations or constraints to it?
Use the "comment" function to comment. :)

Samplars of Revision on Factors

General Guide in checking if number 1 to 6 are factors of the given number:

1) Always start with "1" multiplying with the given number itself.
You will notice that "1" and the "given number itself" are always factors of the given number.

2) Check if the next number "2" is a factor of the given number. It will be if the given number is an even number.

3) To check if "3" is a factor of the given number, add all the digits of the given number together.(Rules for divisibility of 3) If they add up to give either 3, 6 or 9, then "3" is a factor of the given number.

Examples
24 ---> 2+4 = 6, hence 3 is definitely a factor of 24
36 ---> 3+6 = 9, hence 3 is definitely a factor of 36
48 ---> 4+8 = 12, continue adding till you come to a single digit number. 1+2 = 3, hence "3" is definitely a factor 48

Counter examples
20 ---> 2+0 = 2, therefore 3 is not a factor of 20
32 ---> 3+2 = 5, therefore 3 is not a factor of 32
59 ---> 5+9 = 14, continue adding till you come to a single digit number. 1+4 = 5, therefore 3 is not a factor of 59

Alternatively, pupils can remember the multiplication tables by hard or to use long division to decide; it will be a factor of the given number if there is no remainder (27 divided by 3 = 9 AND 48 divided by 3 = 16). It is not a factor of the given number if there is remainder (20 divided by 3 = 6 R2 AND 32 divided by 3 = 10 R2)

4) Check if "4" is a factor of the given number. To begin, the given number must be an even number. Every 20s are multiples of 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40 ... 60...80... 140 and so on)
Use groups of 20s and number bond to help in deciding.

Examples
20 ---> 4 is definitely a factor of 20
32 ---> use number bond; 32 = 20 + 12. Since 12 can be divided exactly by 4, 4 is a factor of 32.
68 ---> use number bond; 68 = 20 + 20 + 20 + 8. Since 8 can be divided exactly by 4, 4 is a factor of 68.

Counter examples
22 ---> use number bond; 22 = 20 + 2. Since 2 cannot be divided exactly by 4, 4 is not a factor of 22.
46 ---> use number bond; 46 = 20 + 20 + 6. Since 6 cannot be dividied exactly by 4, 4 is not a factor of 46.
87 ---> It is not an even number to begin with. Hence 4 is not a factor of 87.

5) Check if "5" is a factor of the given number.
Just look at the digit in the ones place.
5 will only be the factor of the given number if the digit in the ones places is either a "0" or "5".

Examples
20 ---> 5 is a factor of 20.
180 ---> 5 is a factor of 180.
35 ---> 5 is a factor of 35.
265 ---> 5 is a factor of 265.

Counter examples
24 ---> 5 is not a factor of 24.
32 ---> 5 is not a factor of 32.
36 ---> 5 is not a factor of 36.
1039 ---> 5 is not a factor of 1039.

6) Check if "6" is a factor of the given number.
Just check if "2" and "3" are factors of the given number. If they are, "6" will be a factor of the given factor.

Examples
Refer to the pictures, both 2 and 3 are factors of 24 , hence 6 will also be a factor of 24.
Refer to the pictures, both 2 and 3 are factors of 36 , hence 6 will also be a factor of 36.

Counter Examples
Refer to the pictures, 2 is a factor of 20, but not 3. Hence 6 is not a factor of 20.
Refer to the pictures, 2 is a factor of 32, but not 3. Hence 6 is not a factor of 32.

Do try some of these rules on other numbers yourself!
Hope you find them useful!
